Tiny Tongues: infant feeding basics and oral motor JULY 31 or ONLINE August 2

$25.00

Tiny Tongues is a supportive, parent-centered class designed to help caregivers feel confident with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and early oral motor development in the first year of life.

This class bridges feeding and development, helping parents understand how oral motor skills—such as sucking, swallowing, jaw stability, and tongue movement—support safe and effective feeding from day one.

Parents will learn:

  • Foundations of breastfeeding and bottle feeding

  • How oral motor skills develop in infants

  • Proper positioning and latch support principles

  • Bottle feeding techniques that support pacing and coordination

  • Signs of effective feeding

  • Common feeding challenges and what may contribute to them

  • How feeding supports speech and oral development later on

This class also covers:

  • Suck–swallow–breathe coordination

  • Jaw, lip, and tongue development

  • Feeding reflexes in newborns and how they change over time

  • Responsive feeding and bonding during feeding times

  • When to seek lactation or feeding support

After this 60 minute class, caregivers will leave with practical strategies to support calmer, more confident feeding experiences and a better understanding of how their baby’s oral development connects to feeding success.

In person classes are held at Tuneful Journey Ames, IA on Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m.  Address: 2801 Grand Ave #1090, Ames, IA 50010

Online classes will be held on Google Meets on Sunday afternoons at 5:00 p.m.

Perfect for:

  • Expecting parents

  • Newborn parents (0–12 months)

  • Breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or combo-feeding families

  • Parents experiencing feeding concerns or wanting reassurance

  • Caregivers wanting to understand feeding development more deeply

No prior experience is needed.

This class is educational in nature and is not intended to diagnose or treat medical or feeding disorders and does not replace lactation consultation or medical care.
